Game Design 🎮
What is a game anyway?
In an article by Ian Schreiber a game is described as a play activity with rules that involve conflict This is the definition is not to be taken for granted as there is no exact definition for a game. This definition does not talk about how to exactly design a game.
There is many formal elements of a game, such as:
- Rules
- A story
- Resources
- Actions
- and many more.
Normally a game is described to others by comparing it to another game. This doesn't always work because the other person may have not ever played that game before or the game could be completely different to any game that has ever been released. There is no current terminology to use when discussing the fundamentals of game designs, but it is in the process.
A Game can be described in many different ways, such as;
- A game has ends and means and objective and outcome on a set of rules
- A game is an activity involving players decisions seeking objectives would in a limiting contact.
- A game is voluntary effort to overcome on necessary of obstacle.
- A game can be a form of art .
There are also many elements to a game;
An activity...
- That has rules.
- That has conflict.
- That has goals.
- That involves decision making.
- or where there is no material gain, with a voluntary uncertain outcome.
The definition of a game is imperfect the definition is confusing as there is not one definition for what is a game. Games can be more interesting with an element of conflict and games are a form of play.

All About Game Ideation:
In an article by Kultima Annakaisa it is said that ideas don't come by accident. You need a versatile team when creating a new game design and when coming up with new ideas. There can be competition between game companies. And by having a versatile team means that these designers are able to push themselves outside of their comfort zone when creating new ideas.
Brainstorming is a technique that is widely used among game designers to create new ideas and has been for many years now. Ideas sometimes can be drawn from other games but this causes repetition in games.
Analysing and discussing ideas with your team is very important when trying to come up with an idea for a new game. When you have an idea in the game industry its important to look at the potential that this game could have.
In the game design process when it comes to ideas they are organic by their nature. There is still room for improvement with this process and it should be developed more.
Ideas are just a starting point which is to be developed and built upon to design a fully functional working game.
