My First Impression of The Time Management Strategies
The articles that I read as part of these assignment were :
• 4 Questions to Help You Overcome Procrastination by Peter Banerjea.
• Realistic Study Plans by Amanda Collins.
Were the articles useful?
Yes I did find these articles very useful. In the one about procrastination I found it very useful when Peter spoke about the importance of picking one thing to get started with. I definitely sometimes try and get out of getting started on a task for a while but then once I am in to it I realise that I should have just started. Also in this article he speaks about making it easier on yourself, and making sure you do a little bit every day to tick it off and make progress on the task instead of letting it all build up. I also like this line he included, “You want to commit to something so easy that it’s impossible to miss a day". It was a line by a Habit-building expert S.J. Scott. I think this is a really useful bit of information and a nice quote. It’s all about consistency.
As for the other article on study plans for students I found this very useful, time management is all about breaking your time down, setting timers and sticking to that time frame to complete a task. Amanda mentions trying to have a goal for each session that you undertake therefor you will have something to show for that session, I like this idea. She also speaks about ticking off goals which is something that I already do and find it very useful. I write to-do lists when I have work to do and once I am finished one of the tasks I tick it off, I find this very satisfying and also it lets me see what I have done and what I still need to do. This articles were super useful and I will definitely refer back to these later on.
Did you learn anything new that you can try this semester?
I learned that I just need to get started on a project rather than procrastinating and making it harder. I am going to try and do what Peter advises which is pick just one thing even if it’s very small just to get myself started and into it, then once I am started I will finish the assignment much quicker. Also I am going to try and improve on my time management skills. I am finding the recommended time to be spent on the task on the class website really helpful. I have been setting timers and I stick to that time-frame which I would have never done before, I am finding this super helpful and I am getting the work done quicker. I will continue to do this over the semester.
