Game Design Document

I have just completed my games design document - here is the link https://www.dundoc.com/project/6918

I created my games design document on Dundoc, I found this platform difficult to use at first but I got the hang of it after a while. I am happy with my final GDD and I feel it contains all of the information that one needs to make my game, Roly Poly.

This is my own image, it is a screenshot of my dundoc gdd while I was still editing it.

  1. Hey Aoibhe, me again love the layout of your blog.! I had a quick look at your other blogs and they are all really easy to read. Love that the idea of your game came from your nan very cute haha. You said that the ground is going to be grass what if some of the grass is muck and the player isn't able to get out ? I like the idea of a puzzle game as you said you want it to be some sort of frustration for the player by the sounds of it I will be frustrated trying to play it! The layout of your GDD is easy to read and the bullet points really helped when describing how the game will be played. The links are also very helpful to help with the game. Best of luck with your game -Niamh

  2. Hi Aoibhe,
Great game design doc, really well done, as it wasn't difficult to read and was easy to understand what your game idea was. I think it's great that your using a game you played in your childhood, and that now your able to take that game from a board onto a computer, that's just mad!! Since this is a game you played as a kid, was there a lot of similar games you played to choose from, if so was the decision process difficult. As I was reading what the objective of the game was I thought that might be hard to recreate, but I hope it goes well and it's not too difficult, good luck!!

  3. Hey Aoibhe,
I just finished reading your GDD, it was really well laid out and very easy to follow while reading. I think the way you are using a game that you used to play as a kid as your inspiration is actually genius. I found that you explained the rules and how to play it very well that it gave me a clear picture of your game idea. I wonder if you add music would that maybe add a bit of atmosphere to the game. Or even just some sound effects. I think maybe if you added some sketches or some visuals it would add to the document. I hope is all going well with the development of Roly Poly

  4. Hi Aoibhe, you got a well structure document, it looks very clear and easy to follow. I read over your game design document and I really like your game idea. It’s simply yet it looks fun and I really enjoy playing maze games, they were always one of my favourite and I think that everyone enjoys them. The fact that the game will be timed might be a good game for players to compete with one another. I wonder could you add some awards like golden stars maybe along the path for the player to find and then have a better score. I would also recommend to add some sketches to your doc, it will make it even better and allow you to show how you see your game. Best of Luck in your game, looking forward to having a go.

  5. Hey Aoibhe! Really enjoyed reading your GDD and looks like you have a solid game idea! I know you wrote that you won't add music to the game but what if you do to add some intensity to it? A simple background song can have a big impact on the game! You also mentioned that the game will be timed, an idea I had would be to add a 3-star system where depending on how fast you complete the maze you can get 0-3 stars. This can reach out to the competitive side of a player and make them try again until they get 3 stars! Best of luck with your game and I look forward to seeing more!
